COMMANDER DECLARED OPEN THE RENOVATED CATHOLIC CHURCH AT SLAF BASE KATUNAYAKE

The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa declared open the Church of the Holy Family after renovation at SLAF Base Katunayake today 29 May 2024. The dedication and blessing of the Church and the Catholic congregation was also conducted by the Clergy on the same day. Rev. Fr. Darrel Coonghe, the Director of Supuwath Arana at Seeduwa, Rev. Fr. Kennedy Perera, the Rector at Loyola College, Negombo, Rev. Fr. Nuwan Buddhika, Parish Priest at Katunayake conducted the ceremony of dedication and blessing of the Church after renovation.
The Commander, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa pioneered the renovation of the church in 2020 which had been at a dilapidated condition. The project was supported by many donors through the Roman Catholic Church. The construction was undertaken by the Civil Engineering Wing under the guidance of Director General Construction Engineering.
The event was also attended by the members of the Air Force Board of Management, the Base Commander SLAF Base Katunayake, Air Vice Marshal Deshapriya Silva, Officers and Airmen/Women of Catholic faith at the SLAF Base Katunayake and the donors who contributed for the Church renovation project.
