SLAF HOSPITAL COLOMBO ACHIEVES MILESTONE WITH FIRST CAESAREAN SECTION

In a landmark achievement, the SLAF Hospital in Colombo successfully performed the first caesarean section on an airwoman today (10 July 2024). This pioneering procedure marks a significant milestone in the medical capabilities of the SLAF Hospital, demonstrating the expertise and advancing healthcare services for SLAF members and their families.

The caesarean section was performed with the assistance of Castle Street Maternity Hospital. The surgery was conducted by Consultant VOG, Professor Sanath Lanerolle, anaesthesia provided by Consultant Anesthesiologist, Dr. Chandra Bandaranayake and the specialist in paediatrics, Neonatologist, Dr. Buddima Jayasinghe. The entire procedure was diligently coordinated by Commanding Officer Hospital Colombo, Group Captain Sujeewa Alwis, under the guidance of Director General Health Services, Air Vice Marshal (Dr.) Lalith Jayaweera.

The SLAF Hospital Colombo undergoes substantial improvements, incorporating state-of-the-art technological advancements to ensure the highest standards of medical care.

In a gesture of support and encouragement, the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, together with the Chairperson SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Enoka Rajapaksa, visited the hospital to see the mother and her newborn baby.
