INAUGURATION OF ENHANCED FACILITIES AT AIR FORCE SCHOOL, SLAF BASE KATUNAYAKE

The Honorable Governor of the Western Province, Marshal of the Air Force WDRMJ Goonetileke and the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, accompanied by the Base Commander of SLAF Base Katunayake, Air Vice Marshal Deshapriya Silva, officially handed over the newly constructed building and renovated classroom complex of the Air Force School at SLAF Base Katunayake today (16 July 2024).
Established on 01 May 1961, as a primary school and upgraded to a secondary school in 2016, the Air Force School now posses a new building featuring two Smart Classrooms and modern facilities. This project was carried out with the labour assistance of the Sri Lanka Air Force and financial support from the Ministry of Education in the Western Province. The Base Commander of SLAF Base Katunayake and School Principal, Mr. Nilantha Rathnaweera extended a warm welcome to the Honorable Governor and the Commander of the Air Force.
In the keynote address, the Honorable Governor emphasized the crucial role of education in strengthening future prosperity and community development. He highlighted the new building's significance in providing students with the necessary tools to excel academically and achieve their aspirations.
The Commander of the Air Force expressed his sincere appreciation for the dedication and contributions of all stakeholders, ensuring the completion of the project to the highest standards of quality.
The event was attended by the Chief of Staff, members of the Air Force Board of Management, Director of the Education Department of the Western Province, Ms. Neelika Perera, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Education (Western Province), Mrs. Nirupa Manage, Director of Planning of the Western Province, Ms. Nilmini Pathirana and the Zonal Education Director of the Negombo Education Zone, Mr. Saman Perera. Also, Mrs. Dilini Malsha, Executive Engineer of the Provincial Road Development Authority (Negombo Division), Mr. Ruwan Alawaththa, Divisional Engineer of Negombo, teachers and students of the school joined to witness the occasion.
