SLAF COMPLETES RESTORATION OF CP/G/DAMBULLA PRIMARY SCHOOL WITH NEW FACILITIES AND UPGRADES

SLAF Station Sigiriya successfully completed the restoration project of CP/G/Dambulla Primary School that commenced on 17 December 2023. The Handing Over Ceremony took place today (22 July 2024), at CP/G/Dambulla Primary School, under the auspices of the Member of the Parliament, Hon. Janaka Bandara Tennakoon and the State Minister of Defence, Hon. Premitha Bandara Tennakoon.

In support of this significant endeavour, 23 skilled airmen from the Civil Engineering Wing at SLAF Base Katunayake were attached to provide labour assistance. The project was supervised by the Project Officer, Squadron Leader Cosmo Ravindranath under the directives of the Director General Construction Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Chandana Geethapriya. The reconstruction project was initiated following a thorough evaluation of the damage. The endeavour included the renovation of seven buildings, the refurbishment of a washroom complex and the construction of a new assembly area, vehicle park, English room, children's park and main stage. All renovations and construction were executed in compliance with safety standards to ensure a conducive learning environment.

The ceremony was marked by speeches that praised the SLAF’s assistance to the project's success and acknowledged the enduring bond between the military and the community. The event was attended by the Commanding Officer of SLAF Station Sigiriya, Group Captain SV Premawardhana, a cross section of officers and airmen of SLAF Station Sigiriya, government officials, school Principal, teachers, students and other esteemed guests.
