SLAF ENGAGES IN MILITARY LAW KNOWLEDGE-SHARING SESSION AS PART OF IPE - 2024

The Indo-Pacific Endeavour (IPE) 2024, organized by the Australian High Commission, featured a week-long engagement with the Sri Lankan Defence Forces. The Australian delegation was led by the Commander of the Joint Agency Task Force – Operation Sovereign Borders (JATF-OSB), Rear Admiral Brett Sonter, alongside Commodore Michael Harris of the Royal Australian Navy, who served as the Commander of IPE.
As part of this initiative, a four-day knowledge-sharing session on 'Military Law' was conducted for personnel of the SLAF. The lecture series, led by Commander Wesley Heron and supported by a five-member delegation from the Royal Australian Navy, covered critical topics such as the development and contemporary relevance of the Law of the Sea, International Waters, Law Enforcement in the Maritime Domain, Maritime Rules of Engagement, among other key areas.
The series concluded today (15 August 2024), at the SLAF Academy China Bay. SLAF pilots and legal professionals actively participated in this comprehensive programme.
