4:46pm on Friday 16th August 2024
The Aeronautical Engineering Support Wing at SLAF Base Ratmalana celebrated its 15th anniversary on 14 August 2024. Established in 2009, the Wing's primary mission is to provide crucial maintenance support to the SLAF aircraft fleet by conducting third-line maintenance on aircraft components. This includes the repair, maintenance, and overhaul of these components, as well as offering general engineering support for the maintenance of ground support equipment. The Wing possesses a broad range of capabilities, servicing most aircraft types utilized by the SLAF. It currently operates five aircraft component workshops, alongside general engineering workshops equipped for engineering manufacturing.

The anniversary celebrations commenced with a customary working parade, reviewed by the Commanding Officer, Group Captain GTUI Wijerathna. During his address, the Commanding Officer expressed his gratitude to all officers and service personnel for their contributions to the Wing's development.

Following the parade, a Shramadana campaign was conducted to clean a one-kilometer stretch of the Mount Lavinia beach, with the active participation of the Commanding Officer, all officers and other ranks of the Wing.
