A significant milestone for the Seva Vanith Unit was achieved today (30 August  2024), with the laying of foundation stone for the "Little Wonders" Pre-School and Day Care Centre at SLAF Base Ratmalana. The ceremony was conducted under the auspices of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa.

The event was graced by the Chairperson of Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Enoka Rajapaksa, the Director General Construction Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Chandana Geethapriya, the Director General Welfare, Air Vice Marshal Suresh Fernando, the Base Commander SLAF Base Ratmalana Air Commodore Asela Jayasekara and the Head Teacher of the Pre-School Mrs. Inoka Madurani, making a pivotal step towards enhancing the quality for the Montessori education.

The existing Pre-School, which was inaugurated in 1998, will be renovated and upgraded into a modern two-storey building at its current location near the sub guardroom. The new facility will feature two classrooms each for Lower and Upper Kindergarten, a Day Care Centre, an auditorium, an activity room, staff and office rooms, and a utility room. The project is expected to be completed within four months.

A 3D model of the proposed building was presented to the Chairperson of the Seva Vanitha Unit by the Commander of the Air Force, symbolizing the official transfer of the project from the Sri Lanka Air Force to the Seva Vanitha Unit.

This new initiative will significantly improve the early childhood education infrastructure at SLAF Base Ratmalana, providing enhanced benefits to the children of SLAF personnel and supporting their development in a nurturing and supportive environment.
