SLAF BASE KATUNAYAKE CELEBRATES 73RD ANNIVERSARY

SLAF Base Katunayake celebrated its 73rd Anniversary on 01 September 2024. The celebrations began with the customary working parade, followed by a speech from the Base Commander, Air Vice Marshal SDGM Silva, addressing all Officers, airmen, and civil staff of the Base.

In conjunction with the anniversary celebrations, a series of community-focused events took place. On 21 August 2024, a successful Blood Donation program was held, with approximately 125 personnel from every Section and Formation of the Base participating. On the same day, an eye clinic was conducted, benefiting around 122 personnel.

Additionally, Shramadana Campaigns were organized on 27 and 28 August, 2024. These campaigns took place at several key locations, including Ashokaramaya Temple in Kurana, St. Sebastian Church in Katuwapitiya, the Railway Station in Kurana, and Katunayake Maha Vidyalaya. The campaigns were aimed at promoting a healthy environment and fostering community well-being.

In addition, cricket and netball matches were organized to foster camaraderie among the servicemen and women, involving participation from all Officers and other ranks of the Base. The final matches for both sports were held yesterday evening (02 September 2024), culminating in a vibrant Tombola Night.
