The newly constructed Hockey and Soccer Pavilion at the SLAF Trade Training School Ekala was ceremoniously declared open by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, today (04 September 2024).

Although the Hockey and Soccer Grounds were completed in 2018, the complex remained incomplete without a pavilion. The foundation stone for the pavilion was laid on 19 May 2024, and the construction was successfully completed within a relatively short period of two and a half months, marking a significant enhancement for SLAF Sports. Siam City Cement Ltd. also contributed materials for the project, with coordination provided by the Chief Executive Officer of External Affairs at Siam City Cement, Mr. Chandana Nanayakkara.

The opening ceremony was highlighted by a friendly hockey match between the SLAF Hockey team and a team representing the Mercantile Hockey Association. Special commemorative tokens were presented to the team members by the Commander in recognition of the inauguration. The match concluded with a victory for the SLAF Hockey team, which won by four goals.

This event was also attended by the Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, members of the Air Force Board of Management, Director Sports, Commanding Officer Trade Training School, Members of SLAF Soccer & Hockey, dignitaries and officers. The design and construction teams from the Directorate of Construction Engineering also participated in the ceremony.
