Commander’s Annual Inspection at SLAF Unit Weerawila

The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama, conducted the AOCs Inspection at SLAF Unit Weerawila this morning (13 May 2011).
The Commander, upon arrival for the inspection, was received into the camp premises by the Commanding Officer, Wing Commander Mohan Balasuriya, through a street lining of airmen commanded by Flight Lieutenant Nuwan Gunasekera. Three Senior Non-commissioned Officers were commended by the Commander for their meritorious contributions to the Unit in particular and to the Air Force in general. They received their Commendation Certificates from the Commander at a brief ceremony took place at the office of the Commanding Officer.
During the inspection, the Commander declared open the newly constructed 12-room Living-in Block for Officers. This being the first official visit to the Unit by the Commander after his assumption of office, two Mango plants were planted to mark the memorable occasion. Thereafter, the Commander visited the Unit Agro Project spread over a extent of approximately three acres producing the vegetables peculiar to the dry zone. The Commander also inspected the two Lodger Formations located within the Unit; No. 112 UAV Squadron and No. 2 Air Defence Radar Squadron commanded by Squadron Leader Prabhath Dissanayake.
On conclusion of the inspection, the Commander addressed the Officers, men and women of the Unit praising the commendable job they had done and encouraged them to set and reach even higher goals.
