RADAR MAINTENANCE WING AT SLAF BASE KATUNAYAKE CELEBRATES 15TH ANNIVERSARY

The Radar Maintenance Wing at SLAF Base Katunayake celebrated its 15th anniversary today (20 September 2024). The Wing was established at SLAF Base Katunayake on 20th September 2009 and since then, the Wing has become the key maintenance organization for Radar systems within Sri Lanka’s National Air Defence Network.

To mark the occasion, a customary Anniversary Day Working Parade was held at the Wing premises, reviewed by the Commanding Officer. During the Commanding Officer’s speech, he emphasized the significant role the Radar Maintenance Wing has played in supporting the National Air Defence system over the past 15 years. He further elaborated that steps have been taken to enhance research and development in Radar technology, addressing challenges such as shortages of Radar spares and constraints of Radar Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).

Additionally, the Wing organized a Shramadana campaign and an Almsgiving programme at ‘Mahosu’ Child Development Centre, Unnaruwa, Minuwangoda, on the same day. Group Captain GHSD Amarabandu, the Commanding Officer of the Radar Maintenance Wing, participated in the event alongside Officers and all Wing staff.
