FOUNDATION STONE LAID FOR AIR FORCE CARE HOME AT SLAF BASE KATUNAYAKE TO SUPPORT RETIRED PERSONNEL

A significant milestone was reached today (30 September 2024), with the laying of the foundation stone for the Air Force Care Home at SLAF Base Katunayake. The ceremony was conducted under the auspices of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa.
The Air Force Care Home is established to accommodate Sri Lanka Air Force Retired Personnel/Ex-servicemen who wish to spend the latter part of their lives in an Air Force environment under proper care and comfort since they have sacrificed their youth to the nation and the betterment of the organization and the country at large. The construction area is located at Goluwapokuna SLAF Base Katunayake and this project comprises three identified stages of construction.
During the first stage, it is proposed to construct buildings with accommodation facilities, recreational facilities and office facilities with other basic utilities. Under this project, a total of 24 rooms are to be constructed and 12 rooms are to be constructed under the first phase of the first stage and the remaining 12 rooms are to be constructed under the second phase of the first stage. In the second stage, it is proposed to establish luxury-level rooms as an extension to the existing building with luxurious room facilities upon assessment of the requirement. In the third stage, it is proposed to construct a swimming pool and some designated outdoor recreational area upon assessment of the requirement.
The event was attended by the members of the Air Force Board of Management, the Base Commander SLAF Base Katunayake Air Vice Marshal Deshapriya Silva, the Chairman of the Mother Care Foundation, Dr. Tharmalingam Tharesanan, Basnayake Nilame of Ruhunu Katharagama Dewalaya, Mr. Dishan Gunasekara, Air Commodore JA Jabeer (Retd) representing RAFOA, a representative from the Ex Servicemen Association, Air Vice Marshal Elmo Perera (Retd), the Architect, Mr. Suranga Thiththawella and a cross section of officers and airmen representing the Sri Lanka Air Force.
