Ward No. 3 of Mulleriyawa Mental Hospital receives a facelift….

The Sri Lanka Air Force recently conducted a refurbishment programme at Ward No. 3 of the Mulleriyawa Mental Hospital. This female Ward is maintained by the SLAF since 1985 with the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit complementing the maintenance effort by launching various donation and entertainment activities periodically for the welfare of the inmates of the Ward.
Under this latest refurbishment programme, the roof, walls, floor, ablution annexes and the surroundings of the Ward received a facelift while the facilities for inmates were improved with the donation of medical equipment, mattresses and beddings, hygienic supplies, garments, beddings and food items valued over half a million rupees.
The items donated were contributed by the Seva Vanitha branches of all Bases/Stations and Units of the SLAF and the Directorate of Welfare. The Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Neelika Abeywickrema, visited the Ward on 13 May 2011 accompanied by a group of ladies of the Seva Vanitha to formally present the donated items to the hospital management and the inmates. The event was followed by an interaction with the inmates of the Ward where they were treated to refreshments amidst an entertainment provided by a SLAF calypso band much to the delight of the patients of the Ward.
The Director of the hospital, Dr. Jayan Mendis, accepted the donations on behalf of the Hospital and he, along with his staff attended the event.
