The Change of Command of SLAF Base Katunayake was conducted today (01 October 2024). The traditional Handing Over/Taking Over parade took place at the Base Parade Square, where the outgoing Base Commander Air Vice Marshal SDGM Silva WWV, RSP, USP, MSc (Mil Stu), MSc (Strat Stu), MA in IS&S, BSc (Def Stu), Pg Dip (IR), fawc, rcds, psc handed over the command to Air Commodore DRW Jayawardena USP, MSc (Def Stu) in Mgt, MDS, MSSD, BA (Def Stu), ndc (Ban), psc. Air Vice Marshal SDGM Silva will be proceeding to Air Force Headquarters, where he will be assuming duties as the Director General Training.

The new Acting Base Commander, Air Commodore DRW Jayawardena, assumed office after completion of the traditional Handing Over/ Taking Over Parade. He previously held the appointment of Rector of Metropolitan Campus, KDU, before being appointed as the Acting Base Commander of SLAF Base Katunayake.
