SRI LANKA AIR FORCE MEN’S AND WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAMS SECURE CHAMPIONSHIPS AT SUPER CUP 2024 IN MALDIVES

The Sri Lanka Air Force Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams delivered outstanding performances at the prestigious Super Cup 2024, held in Malé, Maldives, from 26 to 30 September 2024. Competing against the strongest basketball teams from the Maldives, both SLAF teams displayed exceptional skill and determination, ultimately claiming victory in both the men’s and women’s categories.
The SLAF Women’s Basketball Team faced a challenging start, narrowly losing to Team Queens in their opening match (50-56). However, they made a remarkable comeback with a decisive 73-41 victory over Team Elite. In the final match, they once again faced Team Queens in an intense battle, ultimately emerging victorious with a tight 74-72 win, earning them the championship title.
In the men’s category, the SLAF Men’s Basketball Team displayed dominance throughout the tournament. They secured a strong 115-99 win over Kings BC in their opening match and followed up with wins against Redwings (101-96) and T-Rex BC (94-72). The final match saw them take on Redwings once more, where they clinched the championship with a 77-71 victory.
The teams were supported by a dedicated management and coaching staff, under the leadership of Group Captain KMGHKH Dias, who served as the Chief of the Mission. Warrant Officer AMNK Thissa took on the role of Trainer, while Flight Sergeant DM Liyanage served as the Team Manager. The teams were coached by Head Coach Mr. KSW Pujitha, assisted by Mr. JS Jayaweera. Additionally, Mr. Lionel Gunawardena contributed as the Tactical Analyst and Performance Enhancer.
