No. 6 AIR DEFENCE RADAR SQUADRON AT SLAF ACADEMY CHINA BAY CELEBRATES 15TH ANNIVERSARY

The No. 6 Air Defence Radar Squadron at SLAF Academy China Bay celebrated its 15th anniversary today (15 October 2024). The No. 6 ADRS was formed as an integral component of the National Air Defence System, which was commissioned as a fully operational squadron on 15 October 2009 at SLAF Station Weerawila. Subsequently, the squadron was relocated into SLAF Academy China Bay on 05 May 2012 in order to meet the operational requirements of the National Air Defence System.

Marking the occasion, the customary working parade was held at the squadron premises, which was reviewed by the Commanding Officer, Wing Commander AASA Gunarathna.

In line with the anniversary celebration, Shramadana campaigns were conducted at Lankapatuna Rajamaha Viharaya and Samudrasanna Temple at Dimuthugama. Furthermore, to make the event more memorable, a children’s movie was screened for the children at ‘Rewatha’ Children’s Home in China Bay and the dinner was distributed to them. Moreover, a blood donation campaign was also organized in the academy by the No. 6 ADRS personnel to support the Trincomalee blood bank and more than 75 blood donors participated in the blood donation drive.

In addition, a tree planting programme was conducted at the Radar Hill with the presence of the Acting Commandant of SLAF Academy China Bay, Group Captain HPAS Hewawasam. The anniversary celebration concluded with a friendly volleyball tournament among all personnel at the squadron volleyball court.
