EAGLES’ CATALINA MONTHLY MEDAL CONCLUDES THE SECOND EDITION ON A SUCCESSFUL NOTE

The second iteration of the Eagles’ Catalina Medal Golf Tournament, organized under the guidance of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, concluded successfully today (20 October 2024) at the Eagles’ Catalina Golf Course in Koggala. This prestigious event, which has quickly established itself as a highlight in Sri Lanka’s golfing calendar, attracted 40 participants competing for top honours.
The past Commander of the Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Kapila Jayampathy, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and initiated the tournament with the First Tee-Off, adding distinction to the event.
The tournament saw exceptional performances across both Ladies' and Gents' divisions. Ms. Roshan Shiyanthi Pieris and Wing Commander Kumara Guruge secured awards for the Longest Drive in their respective categories. In the Gross Score competition, Ms. Frank De Mel was named Runner-Up in the Women’s category, while Mr. Gayashan Wijesinghe earned the same in the Men’s division. Mr. Mervin Preena claimed the award for Nearest to the Pin in the Men’s category.
In the Net Score competition, Ms. Frank De Mel and Mr. Shirley Corea were the Runners-Up in the Women’s and Men’s categories, respectively. Ms. Dilini Hennayake and Wing Commander Lakmal Gunawardana (Retd) triumphed in the Gross Score category for the Ladies’ and Gents’ divisions.

The awards were presented during a ceremony in the afternoon, attended by Air Chief Marshal Kapila Jayampathy as Chief Guest. Other distinguished attendees included Chairman SLAF Golf, Air Commodore Asela Jayasekara, Commanding Officer SLAF Station Koggala, Group Captain Priyadarshana Hettiarachchi and other SLAF officials.
The event concluded on a high note, with participants eagerly looking forward to future editions of the Eagles’ Catalina Medal Golf Tournament.
