SLAF becomes Women’s Hand Ball Champions

The Sri Lanka Air Force women’s team emerged as champions in the first ever National Handball championship whilst the men’s team became runners up yesterday (22nd May 2011).
The championship was held during 20th, 21st and 22nd May 2011 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. Defence services teams, Prison, Transport board as well as the Batticloa, Trincomalee and Ampara District provided nine and six teams in the men’s and women’s category respectively.
Sri Lanka Air Force women competed against the Sri Lanka Navy to clinche the Padmini Rajapaksha Challenge Trophy. From the beginning air women displayed superior talent which kept them on the top by 13 - 05 points.
In the men’s encounter, excellent sportsmanship and competitiveness was seen on the court. However the game ended with the Army team winning. The score at the end of the match was 31 – 25 points. Sri Lanka Air Force and army teams defeated the SL Prison and SL Navy respectively in the semi finals.
