SLAF MEN’S HOCKEY TEAM SECURES SPOT IN FINALS WITH 5-2 VICTORY AT SRI LANKA’S INAUGURAL PREMIER HOCKEY LEAGUE

The SLAF Men’s Hockey team has advanced to the finals of the Inaugural Premier Hockey League tournament of Sri Lanka, securing a 5-2 victory over the Police Sports Club in the first qualifier match held yesterday (05 November 2024) . This win places them in a strong position for the tournament’s championship title.
The Premier Hockey League, organized by the Next Gen Hockey Development Society, introduces a new competitive framework to Sri Lankan Hockey. Featuring a round-robin league format, the tournament includes eight prominent teams from across the country, with participation from the tri-forces and Police teams. Additionally, several teams are armored by international players, enhancing the tournament's competitive edge and attracting national interest.
The SLAF Men’s team has shown consistent performance throughout the tournament, emerging undefeated in the initial round except for a draw with the Police Sports Club. Their strong record placed them at the top of the points table.
The qualified, SLAF team delivered a well-coordinated and focused performance. Leading Aircraftman Weerasooriya PGLG, former captain of the Sri Lanka National Team, led the scoring with three goals, supported by Vikas Chaudhary from the Indian National Team, who added two goals. Their teamwork and strategic play were pivotal in securing the victory and advancing to the finals.
The SLAF Men’s Hockey Team will now prepare for the final match on 09 November 2024 at Astro Turf, Colombo, where they will compete against the winner of the second qualifier. The team remains focused on achieving a successful outcome in this landmark event for Sri Lankan hockey.
