SLAF SIGNS A MOU WITH SBARAGAMUWA UNIVERSITY

Sri Lanka Air Force and Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka (SUSL) formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Air Force Headquarters on 04 November 2024, marking a significant collaboration in training and research. The Director General Planning, Air Vice Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, led the SLAF delegation, while Dean of the Faculty of Geomatics, Dr. H Divithure, headed the university representatives.
This MOU aims to enhance the SLAF's capabilities through training in Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry and Geographic Information Science. The agreement further establishes a framework for joint research in Geo-Spatial Sciences, with both parties expressing mutual interest in pursuing advancements beneficial to their respective fields. The SLAF will additionally support SUSL’s academic programmes by conducting aerial data collection, particularly through drone-based mapping and monitoring, as part of practical surveying modules, including Engineering Survey projects.
Distinguished members from SUSL attending the event included Prof. HRS Bandara, Dr. DR Welikanna, Prof. HMI Prasanna, Mr. TDA Gomesz and Mr. KKDWS Kannangara.
The SLAF delegation included Director Research & Development, Air Commodore Priyamal Fernando, Director Quality Assurance, Air Commodore Chandimal Hettiarachchi, Director Information Technology, Air Commodore Asitha Hettirachchi and other officials.
Through this partnership, both organizations aim to advance national capabilities in Geo-Spatial Sciences, enhancing both technical expertise and practical applications essential to national development.
