COMMANDER CONCLUDES 2024 ANNUAL INSPECTION SERIES WITH COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF AFHQ AND SLAF STATION SRI JAYEWARDENEPURA

The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa conducted the Commander’s Inspection at Air Force Headquarters (AFHQ) and SLAF Station Sri Jayewardenepura today (07 November 2024).

The Commander was welcomed by the Commanding Officer SLAF Station Sri Jayewardenepura, Air Commodore Ruwan Chandima  after which a Ceremonial Guard of Honour was accorded to the Commander.  The following 18 Airmen and three Civilian personnel received certificates of commendation from the Commander in recognition of their meritorious service to the SLAF.

The Commander conducted a comprehensive inspection of all Directorates, Divisions and other areas within Air Force Headquarters. Following the conclusion of the inspection at AFHQ, he proceeded to SLAF Station Sri Jayewardenepura to continue his evaluations.

During his visit to SLAF Station Sri Jayewardenepura, the Commander inspected all operational areas and facilities. Upon completing the inspection, he joined a cross-section of Officers, Airmen, Airwomen and Civilian Staff at the Airmen’s Mess for the customary All Ranks Lunch. Subsequently, he proceeded to inspect the Officers’ Married Quarters Complex at Kollupitiya, followed by visits to the Health Management Center and the AFHQ Officers’ Mess  in Thummulla, as well as SLAF Station Colombo and Guwanpura. At these locations, he reviewed several facilities, including the SLAF Hospital, MT Complex, Welfare Shop and the Married Quarters Complex.

Later, the Commander delivered a general address at AFHQ, where he highlighted the progressive development of AFHQ in line with technological advancements. He noted that administrative functions have become more streamlined with the consolidation of SLAF Station Sri Jayewardenepura within the same facility. Additionally, he discussed the planned gradual reduction of SLAF personnel strength, aiming to reach between 20,000 – 18,000  by 2030, with technological enhancements filling any resulting operational gaps. He encouraged all personnel to provide feedback on welfare facilities, including the newly established daycare center and nursery, through the Feedback Monitoring System (FMS). Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of maintaining personal health and wellness, advocating regular exercise, which can now be monitored through the recently introduced ‘Fitbit’ mobile application.

In conclusion, the Commander extended his appreciation to the Commanding Officer and all personnel for their dedicated efforts in upholding the highest standards of the establishment. This event marked the conclusion of the 2024 Annual Commander’s Inspection Series across the Sri Lanka Air Force.
