SLAF SECURES GOLD AT 49TH INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION ON QUALITY CONTROL CIRCLES 2024

The 49th International Convention on Quality Control Circles (ICQCC) - 2024 hosted by the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Quality & Productivity (SLAAQP) under the theme ‘Beyond Boundaries: A Quest for Quality, Productivity & Innovation’ was held at the BMICH and Mt. Lavinia Hotel premises from 11 to 13 November 2024. SLAAQP is the official Coordinating Committee Member from Sri Lanka to the ICQCC comprising 14 Asian countries, including Japan, South Korea and China, who were the pioneers of the Convention.
ICQCC is renowned as “Quality Promoters.” It attracts a larger number of participants from diverse industrial fields around the Asian region. During the ICQCC sessions, through presentations and the exchange of ideas, the best quality improvement projects and innovation case studies are showcased to all participants so as to inspire and learn from each other. The recipients of the Gold Awards in national conventions in respective countries are eligible to take part in the ICQCC.
SLAF presented the indigenously designed and manufactured Heated Humidified Oxygen Therapy (HHOT) Unit during the National Convention on Quality & Productivity conducted by SLAAQP in 2023 and secured a Gold Award during that event. The project was selected to present at the 49th ICQCC held in Colombo during this year. The SLAF competed under the ‘Quality Improvement and Innovation’ category during the event and the HHOT unit was presented under the team name ‘Hope of Wings.’ The SLAF Quality Improvement Team was able to secure the Gold Award in the competed category yesterday (13 November 2024).
The SLAF Quality Improvement Team comprised of Wing Commander JDN Perera, Wing Commander NK Abeywardana, Squadron Leader KRRN Pushpakumara, Squadron Leader WMH Bandaranayaka, Warrant Officer GHS Niroshana and Flight Sergeant Jayasinghe GWS.
The team met the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, today (14 November 2024) at Air Force Headquarters and formally presented the Gold Award won during the ICQCC-2024. The Commander appreciated the efforts of the team and their achievement. Director General General Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Indika Wickramasinghe and Director Quality Assurance, Air Commodore Chandimal Hettiarachchi, also accompanied the team during the event.
