SLAF WOMEN CYCLISTS EXCELS AT THE DEFENCE SERVICES CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIP 2024/2025

SLAF Women Cycling Team won major honours at the Defence Services Cycling Championship 2024/2025 conducted at Katunayake today (07 December 2024).  SLAF Cyclist Corporal Dinesha Dilrukshi won the first place in the women’s race while Leading Aircraftswomen Sudarika Priyadarshani and Panchali Sulochana won the second and fifth places clinching the Women’s Championship for Sri Lanka Air Force. Sri Lanka Army Women’s Cycling Team became the Runners up of the women’s catogory.

The Defence Services Cycling Championship 2024/2025 featured two road races for men and women categories. The Men’s Race consisted of a route of 145 km while the Women’s race was made up of a 90 km route.

Total of 36 cyclists from the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and the Sri Lanka Air Force competed at the Men’s Race. PPMG Silva of Sri Lanka Navy won the men’s race while the Sri Lanka Army Cyclists ADS Perera and WA Rukmal won the second and third places clinching the Championship in the men’s event for the SL Army.

The Sri Lanka Air Force Cycling organized the event with the Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake. The award ceremony was held at Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake on the same evening with Director General Planning of the Sri Lanka Air Force Air Vice Marshal VB Edirisinghe gracing the occasion as the chief guest.

The Chairman SLAF Cycling, Air Vice Marshal LH Sumanaweera, Base Commander SLAF Base Katunayake, Air Vice Marshal NHDN Dias, Chairman SL Army Cycling, Brigadier C Kaluthararachchi, Chairman SL Navy Cycling, Commodore A Karunathilake, Director Sports of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Group Captain SP Jayasinghe was also present at the event.

A significant number for Cycling fans witness the event along the route and the races were organized with the cooperation of the Sri Lanka Police and the Sri Lanka Railways Department.
