RSFTS SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDES NO. 10 HELI-BORNE OPERATION TRAINING MODULE WITH LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATION

Regiment Special Force (RSF) is the prime element of the Sri Lanka Air Force to conduct future Search and Rescue (SAR) operations in any type of terrain with the hand-to-hand coordination of SLAF Helicopter fleets and Sister Services. RSF Training School (RSFTS) at SLAF Station Morawewa conducted many Heli-borne Operation related training exercises to train foreign and tri-services Elite Force personnel to conduct future Search and Rescue missions over land and sea areas to evacuate distressed pilots, aircrew and civilian during air crash/ any type of natural or manmade catastrophes.

RSFTS conducted No. 10 Heli-borne Operation training module, which comprised a tower training exercise for Abseiling, Rappelling, Fast Rope, Heli Marshaling and Special Rescue Training methods to make a feasible platform to conduct an aircraft training exercise in the same context. Further, the same training modules, including map craft,  GPS handling and GPS march to find the distressed personnel in any terrain with any situations. The aircraft training exercise phase included with Rapid Deployment, Rappelling, STABO, Rope Rescue, Insertion and Extraction and CASEVAC Operation using litter kit exercise which was conducted at SLAF Base Hingurakgoda.

A total of 30 trainees, including two Zambian Air Force personnel, including an officer and a senior non-commissioned officer, four STF personnel, three SL Army Commandos, three SL Army Special Forces personnel, two SL Army Air Mobile personnel, eight SL Navy Special Boat Squadron personnel and eight RSF personnel were successfully completed the course. Furthermore, this RSFTS given training to the more than 50 foreign trainees up to date.

Entire training exercises were conducted under the supervision of the Commanding Officer of the Regiment Special Forces, Wing Commander Sumith Bandara, who led the training programme under the guidance and direct supervision of Director General Air Operations, Air Vice Marshal LH Sumanaweera, Director General Ground Operations, Air Commodore HWR Chandima and Director General Training, Air Vice Marshal SDGM Silva.

The Closing Ceremony was held today (27 December 2024), at SLAF Station Morawewa and the occasion was graced by the Acting Commanding Officer of Sri Lanka Air Force Station Morawewa, Wing Commander WMPC Wijekoon as the Chief Guest. Certificates were awarded to the trainees who successfully completed the training.
