SLAF WOMEN’S TEAM DOMINATES DEFENCE SERVICES WEIGHTLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIP WITH RECORD-BREAKING PERFORMANCES

The 13th Defence Services Weightlifting Championship 2024/2025 concluded successfully at the Torrington Sports Complex Colombo, today (09 January 2025). Commodore Rohan Dissanayake graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Chairman of SLAF weightlifting , Air Commodore Dinesh Jayaweera, senior officers from the Sri Lanka Army and Navy and other invitees participated to witness the final sessions.
The Sri Lanka Air Force Women’s Weightlifting Team emerged as the Women’s Champions, securing an impressive haul of six Gold and four Silver medals. Meanwhile, the SLAF Men’s Weightlifting Team achieved the Runners-Up position with an outstanding tally of three Gold, four Silver and one Bronze medal. Corporal Gomas BDH was recognized for her exceptional performance and was awarded the prestigious title of ‘Best Player’ of the women tournament.
Leading Aircraftman Jayasena URR established a new Sri Lankan record in Snatch - 135Kg under 89Kg Weight Category and Aircraftwoman Premarthna MDM established a new Sri Lanka record in Snatch - 66Kg under 45Kg Weight Category.
