SLAF STATION KOGGALA LEADS BROAD BEACH CLEANUP IN SUPPORT OF "CLEAN SRI LANKA" INITIATIVE

As part of the ongoing  "Clean Sri Lanka" National initiative, the SLAF Station Koggala conducted a comprehensive beach and surrounding area cleaning programme today (11 January 2025) at the Koggala beachfront. This event aimed to support environmental sustainability and raise public awareness about the importance of maintaining clean and healthy surroundings.

The programme, lead by SLAF Station Koggala under the guidance of the Commanding Officer, Group Captain HAWP Hettiarachchi with the participation of over 70 service personnel.

In addition to the about 05km beach cleaning, the surrounding areas adjacent to Koggala Lake and the road network leading to key tourism spots were cleared of waste and debris ensuring a cleaner environment for both local communities and visitors. The effort was a collaborative endeavor with the support of local government authorities and environmentally conscious civilian volunteers, emphasizing the collective responsibility for maintaining our nation’s natural beauty.

The program concluded successfully, with over 300 kilograms of waste collected, segregated and prepared for proper disposal in collaboration with local waste management authorities.
