AIR FORCE RUGBY SECURES HISTORIC VICTORY OVER ARMY TO ENTER LEAGUE’S TOP FOUR

After a 13-year-long wait, the Sri Lanka Air Force Rugby Team achieved a remarkable victory against the Sri Lanka Army Rugby Team, securing their place among the top four teams of the league. The match, held today (08 February 2025) at the Panagoda Army Rugby Ground, concluded with a final score of 27-19 in favor of the Air Force.

The Air Force displayed a formidable attacking strategy in the first half, with tries scored by Hooker Shamika Kaushan and Prop Forward Nirmal Wickramasinghe, complemented by a penalty conversion from Pramoth Pathmasanka. At halftime, the Air Force led with a score of 15-12.

In the second half, Hooker Shamika Kaushan secured his second try of the match, while Speedster Dharshana Dabare added a crucial bonus point try, further solidifying the Air Force’s dominance.

This significant victory not only earned the Air Force Rugby Team the much-needed bonus point but also ensured their qualification for the Cup Segment of the tournament. The team is now set to commence the second round by competing against the top-ranked team on the points table on 1st March 2025.
