
SLAF JAVELIN THROWER SECURES TOP SPOT AT 'STRIVE PROGRAM A - DOMESTIC MEET' IN PERTH

An athlete from the SLAF, Aircraftman Rumesh Tharanga, delivered an outstanding performance at the "Strive Program A - Domestic Meet" held in Perth, Australia yesterday (26 February 2025). His remarkable throw secured him the top position in the competition, further solidifying his status as one of Sri Lanka’s leading javelin throwers.
This achievement marks Rumesh’s second-best throw in his career and the best by a Sri Lankan athlete in 2025. His throw of 82.66m, recorded at the WA Athletics Stadium, places him prominently in the global rankings for the year. His national record of 85.45 m, set on 15 June 2024, remains unbeaten.
Aircraftman Rumesh Tharanga is set to compete at the Perth Track Classic on 1 March 2025, where he will challenge some of the world’s best athletes.
