AIR VICE MARSHAL DEEPAL MUNASINGHE BIDS ADIEU TO THE SRI LANKA AIR FORCE

Air Vice Marshal Deepal Munasinghe RSP, USP, MISMM, MIM(SL), Justice of Peace (All Island) bid adieu to the Sri Lanka Air Force today (07 March 2025), after completing 36 years of dedicated service to the nation. At the time of his retirement, he held the appointment of Director General Logistics of the Sri Lanka Air Force.

Air Vice Marshal Munasinghe made an official farewell call on the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, at his office. The Commander commended him for his dedicated service rendered to the nation and to the Sri Lanka Air Force in particular. The Commander also emphasized that he was one of the key stakeholders during times of need for our motherland and that his heroic history will remain etched in the annals of the SLAF. The Commander and Air Vice Marshal Munasinghe exchanged mementos to mark the occasion.

Subsequently, he was accorded a Ceremonial Guard of Honour by the SLAF Colour Wing before departing from Air Force Headquarters at Defence Headquarters Complex for the last time.

In recognition of the outstanding service rendered to the nation, the Farewell Dinner was graciously hosted in honour of Air Vice Marshal Munasinghe with the presence of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe along with Chairperson SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Krishanthi Edirisinghe and the members of the Air Force Board of Management. This momentous occasion took place at the Air Force Headquarters Officers' Mess in Colombo.

In 1989, he embarked on his journey of military service by enrolling as an Officer Cadet in the 22nd Intake of Sri Lanka Air Force and successfully completed Basic Combat Course at Sri Lanka Air Force Combat Training School Diyatalawa and Logistics Branch Course at Sri Lanka Air Force Trade Training School Ekala. Subsequently, his commissioning as a Pilot Officer in the Logistics Branch in 1992 marked the commencement of his service career as a Military Officer.

Throughout his distinguished career, Air Vice Marshal Deepal Munasinghe has assumed a series of significant roles, each marked by diverse and substantial responsibilities. These noteworthy positions include his service as the Assistant Local Procurement Officer, Officer Commanding Logistics at several Flying Formations during crucial stages in Humanitarian Operation, Offcier Commanding Logistics at SLAF Station Colombo, SLAF Base Anuradhapura, Chief Instructor Non Tech at SLAF Trade Training School Ekala, Staff Officer Logistics III at Air Force Headquaters Colombo, Commanding Officer of three main Logistic Formations Supply and Maintenance Depot, Aircraf Spares Depot, Equipment Provisioning and Account Unit at SLAF Base Katunayake, Commanding Officer of No 03 Leisure and Recreation Wing , Staff Officer Audit & Quality, Staff Officer Logistics I, Director Supplies & Services and Director Logistics Personal and Planning at Directorate of Logistics at Air Force Headquarters Colombo and Sri Jayawardenepra. Then he shouldered the duties and responsibilities of Director General Logistics of the Sri Lanka Air Force at Sri Lanka Air Force Headquarters, Sri Jayewardenepura.

His conduct and service have been exemplary, leading to several prestigious gallantry medals and awards, including the Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP), Uththama Sewa Paddakkama (USP), Long Service Medal and Clasp, Riviresa Campaign Service Medal, North and East Humanitarian Campaign Medals and Purna Bhumi Padakkama, in appreciation of his noteworthy service to the Sri Lanka Air Force.

 In addition to his military experience, Air Vice Marshal Deepal Munasinghe pursued various overseas and local training courses, thus achieving many milestones in his academic career. Notable among these are the Senior Command and Staff Course in Pakistan, the Fundamentals in Purchasing Management Course – ISMM, Government Tender Procedures Course – INGAF, Fundamentals in Stores Management Course – SLIDA, Aviation Fuel Quality Control Course – CPC, Explosives Course - SLAF. Additionally, he is a decorated athlete, Former National Record Holder for Javelin Throw event in the year 1988 and a keen sportsman who has held the Chairmanship of Defence Services Athletic Championship 2022 & 2023, was a Former Executive Member of Sri Lanka Athletics and has been Chairman of SLAF Athletics since 2022. Further, he attended the CISM Athletics Conference held in Dubai as the Head of Delegation and the 5th CISM Asia Meeting in Iran.
