SLAF PARACHUTE TEAM SHINES AT THE 13TH DEFENCE SERVICES PARACHUTE CHAMPIONSHIP

The 13th Defence Services Parachute Championship 2024/2025 was successfully held on 13 and 14 March 2025 at the Drop Zone Sri Lanka Air Force Regimental Training Centre Ampara. The championship which tested the precision, teamwork and aerial expertise of the Tri-Services, concluded with a grand closing ceremony at the same venue.
The competition featured four challenging events which included Formation Skydiving, Team Accuracy, Male Individual Accuracy and Female Individual Accuracy.
In a remarkable outcome, Sri Lanka Air Force and Sri Lanka Army were crowned Joint Overall Championship. SLAF team excelled in multiple categories securing the Gold Medal in the Formation Skydiving Event. Further, the team won the Silver Medal in the Team Accuracy demonstrating their exceptional skill and precision.
Individual performances also shone brightly in the competition. Corporal Wickramrathne PGD of the SLAF clinched the Silver Medal in the Male Individual Accuracy, while Squadron Leader Viduranga Bandara secured the Bronze Medal in the same category. In the Female Individual Accuracy, Leading Aircraftwoman Madubhashini MKH emerged victorious with the Gold Medal, followed by Leading Aircraftwoman Amarasinghe AMMC with the Silver Medal and Corporal Udayakumari KKSS claiming the Bronze Medal.
The awards ceremony was graced by the Director General Training of Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral MDK Wijewardana as the Chief Guest. The occasion was further highlighted by a spectacular parachute display by the Army, Navy and Air Force parachute teams adding grandeur to the event. The championship and the closing ceremony were extensively covered by MI-17 aircraft of No. 06 Squadron SLAF Base Anuradapura.
Distinguished dignitaries present at the closing ceremony included the Chairman of SLAF Parachuting Air Commodore CJ Godakanda, Chairman of SL Navy Parachuting, Commander (SBS) DGKGT Kumara, Secretary of SL Army Parachuting, Brigadier PSJD Samarasekara, Area Commander – Southeast Naval Area Rear Admiral GHSE De Silva, Commanding Officer SLAF Regiment Training School Ampara, Group Captain DSMLK Sugathadasa and Commanding Officer of SLAF Station Batticaloa, Group Captain KHMSS Bandara along with senior officers from the Tri-Services.
