INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED FOLLOWING CRASH OF K-8 ADVANCED JET TRAINER AIRCRAFT

A K-8 advanced jet trainer aircraft attached to No. 05 Fighter Squadron at SLAF Base Katunayake crashed this morning (21 March 2025) in the Wariyapola area, Kurunegala, during a training exercise. Both pilots on board successfully ejected and no fatalities have been reported.

The aircraft was carrying a qualified flight instructor and another pilot, both of whom have been admitted to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital for medical treatments.

Following the crash, the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe has appointed a seven-member special investigation committee to conduct an inquiry into the incident.
