Newly refurbished Ward No. 3 Declared Open

The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama
declared re-opened the newly refurbished ward No. 3 of the Mulleriyawa
Mental Hospital on 21st June 2011.
This female Ward has been maintained by the SLAF since 1985 with the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit complementing the maintenance effort by launching various donation and entertainment activities periodically for the welfare of the inmates of the Ward.
Under this latest refurbishment program the roof, walls, floor, ablution annexes and the surroundings of the Ward received a facelift while the facilities for inmates were improved with the donation of medical equipment, mattresses and beddings, hygienic supplies, garments and food items valued over half a million rupees.
The items donated were contributed by the Seva Vanitha branches of all Bases/Stations and Units of the SLAF and by the Directorate of Welfare.
The event was followed by an interaction with the inmates of the Ward where they were treated to refreshments amidst entertainment provided by the SLAF calypso band much to the delight of the patients of the Ward.
The Chairman of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs Neelika Abeywickrama, the wives of the Officers, SLAF Ex-Servicemen’s Women’s Association and the wives of those who made the supreme sacrifice were present on the occasion.
The Consultant Psychiatric Dr Pushpa Ranasinghe on behalf of the Director Dr. Jayan Mendis, thanked the participants and praised the efforts of both the Seva Vanith Unit of the Sri lanka Air Force, the Directorate of Welfare and the participants who were present for the wonderful effort made to uplift the standards of the hospital.
