CHANGE OF COMMAND AT NO. 1 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY WING

The Change of Command at No. 1 Information Technology Wing of the Sri Lanka Air Force Base, Ratmalana, took place yesterday (06 June 2025). The traditional handing over/taking over parade was conducted at the Base Parade Square, where the outgoing Commanding Officer, Group Captain API Sampath Kumara USP, PgDip (Def Mgt), handed over command to Wing Commander VPS Gunasekara BSc (IT), MSc (Def & Strat Stu), psc.
Group Captain API Sampath Kumara assumed command of No. 1 Information Technology Wing on 18 August 2021. He will now take up the appointment of Staff Officer Information Technology I at Air Force Headquarters. During his tenure, he spearheaded the development and deployment of numerous software systems, while introducing cutting-edge technologies and strategic methodologies to enhance the effectiveness of software development teams.
The new Commanding Officer, Wing Commander VPS Gunasekara BSc (IT), MSc (Def & Strat Stu), psc, previously held the appointment of Staff Officer Information Technology II at Air Force Headquarters before being appointed as the 6th Commanding Officer of No. 1 Information Technology Wing.
