Fulfilling a long-standing welfare need at SLAF Academy China Bay, the ‘Little Wings’ Day Care Centre was ceremonially declared open today (25 June 2025) by the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Krishanthi Edirisinghe. This significant milestone marks the successful implementation of a key welfare initiative aimed at supporting the service personnel and their families of the Academy.
By easing the burden of childcare during duty hours, this facility provides vital support to both officers and other ranks enhancing their ability to balance professional duties with parenting responsibilities. Furthermore, as part of the continued commitment of the SLAF to community service, the facility will also extend its services to the nearby civilian community at concessionary rates as a Community Service initiative.
The project was completed under the direct supervision of the Commandant of SLAF Academy China Bay, Air Commodore Amal Perera and features child-friendly infrastructure, dedicated learning and play areas and trained caretakers to ensure a safe, nurturing and professionally managed environment for the children.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Commandant, a cross-section of service personnel and members of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit who came together to celebrate this vital addition to the welfare facilities of the Academy.
