
SLAF PERFORMING ARTS WING CELEBRATES 55TH ANNIVERSARRY

The Performing Arts Wing (PAW) of SLAF Base Katunayake, originally established as the SLAF Band in 1970, marked its 55th Formation Day yesterday (01 July 2025). Under the guidance of the former Director of Performing Arts, Group Captain Jayerathna Amarasinghe, a series of activities were organized.
The commemorative events commenced on 30 May 2025 with a community cleaning project at St. Anne’s Church, Kurana. This initiative, led by the former Director, involved the active participation of officers and other ranks, contributing to the upkeep of the local environment.
On 07 June 2025, members of the Performing Arts Wing undertook a pilgrimage to Ruwanweli Seya in Anuradhapura. As part of the visit, a cleaning campaign was also conducted at the temple premises.
Continuing its community outreach efforts, the Performing Arts Wing organized a programme at Methsuwa Child Development Centre on 13 June 2025. The event included the donation of dry rations, gift packs and entertainment items, along with musical performances by the SLAF Beat Group.
The Formation Day ceremony yesterday (01 July 2025) included the customary working parade held at the Wing premises, followed by a friendly cricket match with the participation of officers and personnel of the wing.
The celebrations were attended by the Base Commander of SLAF Base Katunayake, Air Commodore Asela Jayasekara, Director of Performing Arts, Group Captain Ananda Kumarasiri, and other Commanding Officers of SLAF Base Katunayake.
