SUCCESSFUL TWO-DAY MEDICAL CAMPAIGN IN LAHUGALA SUPPORTED BY SLAF AND REGIONAL HEALTHCARE PARTNERS
A comprehensive two-day medical campaign was successfully conducted on the 19 and 20 July 2025 in the Lahugala area, delivering essential healthcare services to the local community. This initiative was organized through the collaborative efforts of the Chief Incumbent of Na Uyana Senasanaya, Venerable A. Ariyananda Thero, medical teams from General Hospital Ampara and General Hospital Kalmunai, and a group of qualified medical consultants from Malaysia.
The programme was coordinated and supervised by the Commanding Officer of the SLAF Regimental Training Centre Ampara, Group Captain Lalith Sugathadasa. Further operational support and coordination were provided by the Officer Commanding Neelagiriya Detachment, the District General Hospital (DGH) Ampara, the Regional Director of Health Services (RDHS) Ampara and Laboratory Services Colombo, together with the dedicated medical staff and service personnel of SLAF Regimental Training Centre Ampara.
The primary objective of this medical outreach was to extend vital healthcare assistance to underserved residents in Lahugala. A broad range of services was offered, including general medical consultations, dental care, laboratory testing, vision and eye care, pharmacy services and specialized consultations in orthopedics, gynecology and obstetrics and pediatrics. The campaign received strong engagement and appreciation from the local community for its efficiency and the high quality of care delivered.
The inclusion of specialized clinics ensured that patients of all age groups and medical needs received appropriate treatment and consultation. The Malaysian medical consultants worked in close collaboration with Sri Lankan healthcare professionals, strengthening meaningful exchanges of clinical expertise and best practices.
The involvement of regional health authorities and the presence of SLAF medical personnel ensured the smooth and effective execution of the programme. Patient registration, diagnostic services and the distribution of medication were carried out in an organized and efficient manner, contributing significantly to the overall success of the initiative.
