Commander Visits Brunei Darusallam as a Guest Invitee of Bridex-2011

On the invitation of the Commander of the Royal Brunei Air Force, Brigadier General Haji Jofri Bin Haji Abdullah, the Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama, attended the Brunei Darussalam International Defence Exhibition - 2011 (BRIDEX - 2011) held in Jerudong, Brunei Darussalam as a guest invitee from 4th to 8th July 2011.
The Commander, on arrival at the Bandar Seri Begawan International Airport, was warmly received by a senior Air Force delegation and was escorted to the Empire Hotel & Country Club at Jerudong for accommodation, where he was warmly welcomed by the Commander of the Royal Brunei Air Force, Brigadier General Haji Jofri Bin Haji Abdullah.
This Exhibition was preceded by a Conference on “Leveraging Technology for Future Defence Needs” which was inaugurated by HRH Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince of Brunei Darussalam. The Exhibition, participated by a host of renowned suppliers of military, naval and aviation products was attended by armed forces Commanders of many countries. The Exhibition was inaugurated by His Majesty Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam.
During the Exhibition, the Commander interacted with many trade exhibitors promoting products that are already in service with the SLAF and also exploring innovative products that are potentially useful for the SLAF. In the sidelines of the BRIDEX-2011, the Commander paid a formal courtesy call on the Commander of the Royal Brunei Air Force, Brigadier General Haji Jofri Bin Haji Abdullah. After a cordial discussion on matters of mutual interest, the two Commanders exchanged mementos to mark their maiden encounter.
The Commander being an avid Golfer, readily participated in the Social Golf event held as a part of the BRIDEX-2011 programme at the Empire Hotel Golf Course on 06th July. The event was eagerly attended by the visiting armed forces chiefs and senior military delegates. The Commander won honours of the game by finishing in third place.
Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetileke and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, also attended BRIDEX – 2011 as guest invitees of their counterparts in the Brunei defence establishment.
