SLAF BASE KATUNAYAKE CELEBRATES 74TH ANNIVERSARY
SLAF Base Katunayake celebrated 74 years of dedicated service to the Nation yesterday (01 September 2025). The celebrations commenced with the customary working parade, which was commanded by Group Captain Sanjaya Edirisinghe and reviewed by the Base Commander, Air Commodore Asela Jayasekara.
During the parade, the Base Commander presented certificates of commendation issued by the Commander of the Air Force to Flight Sergeant Kapuruge RM (Air Frame Specialist) and Corporal Madusanka MAS (Fire Fighter II) in recognition of their meritorious and exemplary service.
In line with the anniversary celebrations, several events were organized, including a successful Blood Donation Programme on 19 August 2025, which saw the participation of more than 100 donors from the Base. From 26 to 28 August 2025, a series of Shramadana Campaigns were also conducted to enhance the surroundings of the SLAF Hospital premises and the religious places of worship within the Base, with a focus on maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
In addition, cricket and netball matches were held to strengthen camaraderie among service personnel, with the active participation of all officers and other ranks of the Base. The finals of both sports events were played yesterday as part of the anniversary celebrations.
