SLAF POWERS LANDMARK COLOMBO BUS TERMINAL RENOVATION
The Colombo Central Bus Terminal Renovation Project was officially launched this morning (15 September 2025) under the patronage of the President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Anura Kumara Dissanayake, as part of the ‘Clean Sri Lanka' programme.
For the first time in 60 years, the terminal will undergo complete redevelopment, transforming it into a modern facility with improved infrastructure and passenger conveniences. The project, valued at Rs. 425 million, is scheduled for completion by April 2026, prior to the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
The SLAF plays a pivotal role in this national endeavour, providing direct labour and engineering leadership under the close coordination of the Director General Construction Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Vajira Senadeera. The Deputy Minister Defence, Major General Runa Jayasekara (Retd), Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe attended the ceremony, together with senior officers.
The renovation will be carried out in collaboration with the Colombo Municipal Council, Ceylon Electricity Board, National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Road Development Authority, Urban Development Authority and several partner organizations.
The President unveiled the commemorative plaque and inspected the project site, joined by Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Members of Parliament, the Governor of the Western Province, Colombo Mayor, Secretary of Defence, senior Tri-Forces officers, officials of the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat and other distinguished invitees.
