SECRETARY DEFENCE AND THE COMMANDER INSPECT RENOVATION WORK AT COLOMBO CENTRAL BUS STAND, PETTAH

The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), together with the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, visited the renovation site of the Colombo Central Bus Stand, Pettah yesterday (20 October 2025). The project is being implemented under the Clean Sri Lanka programme, which aims to enhance urban infrastructure and promote environmental cleanliness across the country.

During the visit, the Secretary Defence inspected the ongoing renovation work and attended a comprehensive briefing conducted by the Director General Construction Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Vajira Senadeera. The briefing covered key aspects of the project, including implementation plans, time frames, work scope and current progress. The discussion also focused on addressing challenges faced during the construction process to ensure timely and efficient completion.

Under this initiative, the SLAF is responsible for the complete renovation of the buildings at the Colombo Central Bus Stand, resurfacing of floors, infrastructure upgrades and development of drainage systems. The Secretary Defence emphasized the importance of maintaining continuous and effective coordination with relevant government agencies such as the Ceylon Electricity Board, National Water Supply and Drainage Board and the Colombo Municipal Council to ensure the smooth progress of the project.
