SLAF ATHLETES EXCEL AT THE 4TH SOUTH ASIAN SENIOR ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP 2025

SLAF athletes brought immense pride to the nation and the Force with their outstanding performances at the 4th South Asian (SAAF) Senior Athletics Championship, held from 24 to 26 October 2025 at the Morabadi Football Stadium in Ranchi, India.

The highlight of the championship was the exceptional performance of Aircraftman Tharanga PR, who won the Gold Medal in the Javelin Throw with a record-breaking distance of 84.29m, earning him the title of Best Athlete (Men) of the Championship. Leading AAircraftma Kumara UDYW secured the Silver Medal in the Long Jump with a leap of 7.56 metres, while Leading Aircraftwoman Kaushalya KHAD clinched the Gold Medal in the 400m Women’s Hurdles, setting a new South Asian Meet Record with a time of 58.66 seconds. Leading Aircraftwoman  Sathsarani LGA followed closely, winning the Silver Medal in the same event with a time of 59.24 seconds, marking a remarkable Air Force double victory. Leading Aircraftwoman Lakmali AGVV earned the Bronze Medal in the Discus Throw with a throw of 43.01 metres, and Aircraftman Fernando MANH contributed to the national effort by securing a Silver Medal in the 4x400m Relay, clocking 3:35.71 minutes.

Aircraftman Korala AK (Triple Jump) and Leading Aircraftwoman Kumari KGNMA(1500m) achieved commendable fourth-place finishes in their respective events.

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
