A Day Filled with Social Service At Ampara

Sri Lanka Air Force Ampara in association with the Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit and the Directorate of Health Services, catered to the basic requirements of the people living in the vicinity of the station by donating school books and accessories at Himadurawa Vidyalaya and by holding a health camp at Nawagiriyawa Sri Gauthama Viharaya Yesterday (29th July 2011).
On arrival at SLAF Ampara, the Chief Guest, Chairperson of Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Neelika Abeywickrama, declared open a newly constructed shrine room in the camp premises which gave a religious start for the day.
Thereafter over 550 children of Himadurawa Vidyalaya, Kahatagasyaya Vidyalaya and Mahakandiya Vidyalaya were presented with school bags, shoes, books, lunch boxes, water bottles, pens, pencil and other required stationery to continue their studies without any hindrance. The children of these schools coordinated effort to produce a cultural show that was a huge success. In addition the winner of ‘Derana Little Star’ ‘Pinidu Bimsara’ who is from the area took the opportunity to prove his talents. Under the patronage of the Chairperson, the Seva Vanitha Unit of the SLAF organized the event with the able help of SLAF Ampara.
The Directorate of Health Services of the Sri Lanka Air Force offered a rare opportunity to the people of Ampara to get the services and qualified opinions from specialists like Physicians, Surgeons, Gynecologist & Obstetricians, Pediatricians, Eye specialists, Orthopedic and Skin decease specialists. Around 1500 people were attended to at the health camp which also provided much needed facilities such as eye tests, blood sugar tests, urine tests, full blood count and ECG tests at the same location without a hassle. The inhabitants appreciated the noble endeavor of Sri Lanka Air Force and displayed their appreciation by providing the lunch for the SLAF personnel.
