SLAF CONDUCTS GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE TRAINING AT EAGLES’ CITADEL

The SLAF Station Sigiriya successfully conducted a Golf Training Programme at the Eagles’ Citadel Golf Course on 11 and 12 November 2025, aimed at enhancing the knowledge of Airmen in Golf Course maintenance and raising standards across all SLAF Golf facilities. The programme saw the participation of 44 Airmen from various SLAF Golf Courses.

The training was guided by the Chairman of SLAF Golf, Air Commodore Erandika Gunawardena and supervised by the Commanding Officer, Group Captain ADCUN Andradi, along with Secretary of SLAF Golf, Wing Commander Thushan Fernando. Support was also provided by, Officer Commanding of the Eagles’ Citadel Golf Course, Squadron Leader DGNS Kumara.

Lectures were delivered by the Green Keeper of Victoria Golf Club – Digana, Mr. Subash Liyangunawardana and a Golf professional specializing in SLGU rules, Mr. Si Sirath Kasturirathna. Sessions focused on maintaining Golf Courses according to International Golf Federation standards and included practical training on green cutting, fairway upgrading, top-dressing methods, ironing and the proper application of fertilizers and chemicals.

To provide on-site practical experience, the resource persons conducted an inspection of the newly constructed Eagles’ Citadel Golf Course with all participants. Recommendations were also provided to improve the present condition of the Eagles’ Citadel Golf Course as well as other SLAF Golf facilities.
