NO. 6 AIR DEFENCE RADAR SQUADRON CELEBRATES 16TH ANNIVERSARY
The No. 6 Air Defence RADAR Squadron at SLAF Academy China Bay celebrated its 16th Anniversary on 15 October 2025. The No. 6 Air Defence RADAR Squadron was formed as an integral component of the National Air Defence System, which was commissioned as a fully operational Squadron on 15 October 2009 at SLAF Station Weerawila. Subsequently the Squadron was relocated into SLAF Academy China Bay on 05 May 2012 in order to meet the operational requirements of the National Air Defence System.
To mark this significant milestone, a customary working parade was held at the squadron premises reviewed by the Commanding Officer Wing Commander GAKMP Chandralal MSc (Def & Strat Stu), MIM (SL), psc.
Adding further value to the celebrations, dinner was distributed to the children of the ‘Rewatha’ Children’s Home as part of the anniversary programme. In line with national efforts under the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, a beach-cleaning programme was also conducted at Trincomalee Beach yesterday (13 November 2025) in collaboration with the Trincomalee Urban Council.
In addition, a tree-planting programme was held at the Radar Hill with the participation of the Commanding Officer No. 6 Air Defence RADAR Squadron.
