The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, concluded the Commander’s Inspection – 2025 yeterday (14 November 2025), following a comprehensive review of Air Force Headquarters, SLAF Station Sri Jayewardenepura, SLAF Colombo, and associated establishments.

The day commenced at AFHQ Sri Jayewardenepura with a Ceremonial Guard of Honour, after which the Commander awarded Certificates of Commendation to 33 Airmen and two Civilian personnel for their dedicated and meritorious service.

The Commander conducted a thorough inspection of all Directorates, Divisions, and Units across AFHQ, including the Air Secretariat, Seva Vanitha Unit, and Directorates responsible for Budget, Planning, Foreign Affairs, Air Operations, Administration, Training, Welfare, Media, IT, Logistics, Finance, Civil Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Procurement, Cyber Operations and audit and support functions.

He then joined All Ranks for lunch at the Warrant Officers’ and SNCOs’ Mess, SLAF Station Sri Jayewardenepura, followed by an inspection of the Station Headquarters. During this visit, the Commander delivered a general address at AFHQ, where he highlighted the importance of professionalism, discipline, and responsible use of the new high-tech facilities at Headquarters. He emphasized maintaining the Air Force’s longstanding reputation through ethical conduct, continuous training, and knowledge-sharing. The Commander also announced key capability developments, including the refurbishment of the MI-17 fleet and the expected arrival of 10 TH-57 helicopters from the United States. He further encouraged cooperation with sister services as the building complex expands and acknowledged the welfare measures in place to support SLAF personnel and their families. In conclusion, the Commander extended his appreciation to the Commanding Officer and all personnel for their dedicated efforts in upholding the highest standards of the establishment.

The Commander also visited Detachments Baththaramulla and Kinnadeniya, followed by SLAF Station Colombo and SLAF Guwanpura, inspecting key operational and welfare facilities, including the SLAF Hospital, Pre-School and Day Care Centre, MT Complex, Welfare Shop and recreational amenities.

The inspection formally concluded at the AFHQ Officers’ Mess, Thummulla, where the Commander declared open a newly established Sporting Room named “Eagles’ Spirit”, featuring billiards, chess, carrom and other recreational facilities. This event marked the conclusion of the 2025 Annual Commander’s Inspection Series across the Sri Lanka Air Force.
