SLAF Womens Football Debut Performance

Sri Lanka Air Force female Football players became the Runners Up in the Womens Open Soccer Championship 2011 in their very first appearance at National level.
The tournament which kicked off on 30tht of July saw the finals being played on 1st August 2011 at the Police Park Bambalapitiya.
12 womens team under four groups fought for the championship where SLAF defeated Madagama Sport Club by 8 – 0, Kandy sport club 5 – 1 in the first round matches. SLAF beating the Kurunegala team in the quarter finals by 3 goals to nil and continued the successful run to go onto defeat the Police team by 1 – 0 to qualify for the finals.
In the finals, the army team scored 04 goals and permited the SLAF to score only a single goal which curtailed the airwomen’s effort to become Champions in their maiden tournament.
The Director General of the Sports Ministry Mrs. Ranjani Jayakody, Chief Executive Officer of the Football Federation Mr. Krishantha Perera, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Football Federation Mr. Anura Silva, Chairman of Women’s Football Development Committee Mrs. Olivia Gamage and the Secretary of SLAF Football Group Captain Saman Kotage was present on the occasion.
