SLAF AWARDED FOR ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE AT TECHNO 2025
The SLAF was honoured for its achievements in engineering and technological innovation at the 37th Techno 2025 Awards Ceremony held recently at the Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo. These recognitions followed the successful participation of the Tri-Services at the 37th Techno 2025 Engineering Exhibition conducted in October under the theme ‘Engineering for a Smart Nation.’
The SLAF received the Gold Award for the indigenously developed Vimana S I, S II and S III drones produced by the Aeronautical Research & Development Wing at SLAF Station Katukurunda. In addition to the Gold Award, the SLAF secured multiple recognitions for engineering support equipment designed and fabricated locally to enhance aircraft maintenance and operational safety. The Aircraft Support Wing at SLAF Base Ratmalana received a Silver Award for the Oleo-Pneumatic Tester, a key device used in assessing landing gear shock absorption systems and another Silver Award was presented to No. 61 Flight at SLAF Base Ratmalana for the APU Bleed Valve Test Bench used in the precise testing of Auxiliary Power Unit components. The Aircraft Support Wing also earned a Bronze Award for the IB 1000-IG Static Inverter Tester, while No. 04 Squadron at SLAF Base Ratmalana received a Bronze Award for the Mi-17 Helicopter APU Auto Control Unit Test Device.
These achievements signified the dedication to research, development and the advancement of indigenous technology under the leadership of the Director General of Aeronautical Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Gihan Senevirathne and the support of the Directorate of Research and Development.
