CERTIFICATE AWARDING CEREMONY OF FIRE SAFETY AWARENESS TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR SLAF RETIRED PERSONNEL
The Certificate Awarding Ceremony of the Fire Safety Awareness Training Programme conducted for Sri Lanka Air Force retired personnel was held today (19 December 2025) at the Fire School and Fire Tender Maintenance Squadron (FS&FTMS), SLAF Base Katunayake. The Director Air Traffic Services, Air Commodore Nandika Salgado, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The ceremony concluded with a firefighting demonstration conducted by the course participants.
The training programme was conducted over a period of two and a half months at SLAF Base Katunayake under a structured syllabus, with the facilitation of the Base Commander, SLAF Base Katunayake, Air Commodore Amitha Jayamaha. The course curriculum covered domestic firefighting, fire service engineering science, fire service operations, breathing apparatus, fire detection and protection systems, fire service pumps, fire prevention, and rope rescue knot techniques. A total of 16 trainees were awarded certificates upon successful completion of the programme.
The ceremony was attended by the Chief Fire Officer, SLAF Fire and Rescue Service, Group Captain Hemantha Balasooriya, the Commanding Officer, Fire School and Fire Tender Maintenance Squadron, Group Captain Chamil Hettiarachchi, along with officers and other ranks of the squadron.
