NEWLY TRAINED SLAF K-9 TEAMS READY TO ENHANCE AIRPORT SECURITY
The certificate awarding ceremony to mark the successful completion of the Narcotic Search and Clearance Course by Military Working Dogs and their handlers was held at No. 48 K-9 Wing, SLAF Base Katunayake, today (23 December 2025).
This programme was conducted for the second time since 2020, following a hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic, marking a significant step in enhancing the operational readiness of SLAF K-9 Wing. The newly trained Military Working Dogs will be deployed at Bandaranaike International Airport, Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport and Jaffna International Airport to carry out narcotic search and clearance duties.
The event was graced by the Commanding Officer of No. 48 K-9 Wing, Wing Commander GDDPK Hathurusinghe, as the Chief Guest. Also in attendance were the Officer Commanding Kennel Management and Health Care, Wing Commander KMH Jinarathne and the Officer Commanding Operations and Training, Squadron Leader KSB Anthony.
A total of twelve Military Working Dogs and their handlers were awarded certificates in recognition of their successful completion of the course. The ceremony also served as an opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the valuable contribution of officials from the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB) and the instructors, whose dedication and expertise ensured the successful conduct of the programme.
