The Change of Command at SLAF Base Vavuniya was held yesterday (23 December 2025) where Group Captain DGNB Senavirathne RWP, RSP and Bar, USP, MLRHRM, Pg Dip (Def Mgt), Pg Dip (Con & Pea Stu), psc, qfi handed over the command to Air Commodore KAPS Kuruwita MSc (Strat Stu), MA (IR), MIM (SL), fawc, ndc.

Air Commodore KAPS Kuruwita previously held the appointment as Director Air Intelligence and subsequently followed the National Defence College course in India before being appointed as the Base Commander, Vavuniya. The outgoing Acting Base Commander Group Captain DGNB Senavirathne will be preceding to SLAF Academy China Bay as the Acting Director Academic Studies and Deputy Commandant.
